Pastor Glenn Germany found himself at the center of a harrowing incident during Sunday service at Jesus’ Dwelling Place church in North Braddock, Pennsylvania. As he stood preaching, a sudden movement caught his eye—a man, later identified as Bernard Junior Polite, slipped to the front of the congregation, flashing a grin before brandishing a firearm in the pastor’s direction.
“I began to preach, and suddenly, to my left, I saw him move from the back to the front of the church, and he sat in the front corner of the church and smiled at me,” recounted Mr. Germany to Action 4 News. “Suddenly, I saw a gun pointed at me. And at that point, all I could try to do is run for cover.”

In a moment of divine intervention, the firearm malfunctioned, sparing Pastor Germany’s life. “He pulled the trigger and a miracle of God happened that the gun jammed. That bullet had a name,” he expressed to ABC’s Good Morning America. The tense encounter, captured on the church’s live stream, unfolded as congregants watched in shock. But the danger didn’t end there.
Following the failed attempt, Bernard Junior Polite was swiftly tackled by a member of the congregation and later apprehended by authorities. Polite, 26, now faces charges of attempted homicide. However, the plot thickened with the discovery of a body at Polite’s residence later that evening. Derek Polite, 56, was found shot dead at the address. While Bernard Polite allegedly claimed that “God told him to do this” upon his arrest, the motive behind Derek Polite’s death remains unclear, and Bernard Polite faces a slew of serious charges, including aggravated assault and reckless endangerment, but as of now, no charges have been filed directly related to Derek Polite’s death.
