Tokyo Gap-Financing Market Launches Awards Program

The Tokyo Gap-Financing Market is introducing its first awards program at the sixth edition of the industry platform, which runs Oct. 29-31 as part of TIFFCOM 2025.

The newly launched TIFFCOM TGFM 2025 Awards will be presented at a ceremony on Oct. 31 at Midtown Hibiya’s Lexus Meets venue. The honors include the Tokyo Projects Award, carrying a JPY2 million ($13,225) cash prize, and the Asian Gen-Z Award worth JPY500,000 ($3,305), which will be determined by a selection committee of five film students aged 20 to 28.

Two in-kind awards will also be presented: the Kongchak Award from Cambodia-based Kongchak Studio, offering sound post-production services valued at $25,000, and the White Light Award from Thailand’s White Light, providing post-production services also valued at $25,000.

TGFM serves as a financing platform for feature-length film projects, providing one-on-one meetings between filmmakers and industry professionals. This year’s edition selected 23 projects — 17 live-action and six animation — from Japan, Asia and beyond.

The market is also launching TGFM Morning Sessions, a series of lectures aimed at producers pursuing international co-productions. The sessions will be held over two consecutive mornings on Oct. 30 and 31, focusing on project markets and funds and grants.

The Project Market Talk on Oct. 30 will feature Tania Morissette, deputy director of Frontières International Co-Production Market; Jacob Wong, director of HKIFF Industry; and Pascal Diot, head of Venice Production Bridge.

The following day’s Fund Talk will include Rémi Burah, CEO of Arte France Cinéma and president of ArteKino; Aleksandra Zakharchenko, head of industry programs at Marché du Film – Festival de Cannes; and Munthir Altuwayrib, legal and financial supervisor of Red Sea Fund.

The sessions will be conducted in English without Japanese interpretation and are restricted to TGFM participants, invitees and accredited press.

TIFFCOM 2025 runs Oct. 29-31 at Tokyo Metropolitan Industrial Trade Center Hamamatsucho-kan and is the affiliated content market of the 38th Tokyo International Film Festival, which takes place Oct. 27 through Nov. 5.
