Nanni Moretti casts Louis Garrel and Jasmine Trinca in New Film

This is also important:

Palme d’Or-winning Italian auteur Nanni Moretti (“The Son’s Room”) is set to soon return behind camera on the romantic drama “Succederà questa notte” (“It Will Happen Tonight”), starring French star Louis Garrel and Italian A-lister Jasmine Trinca (“La Storia,” “Supersex”).

The 71-year-old idiosyncratic director, actor and screenwriter, who suffered a heart attack in April but rapidly recovered, is expected to shoot the film in Spain and Italy this fall. “It Will Happen Tonight” is loosely based on the short story collection “Hungry Heart” (Lev Raev) by Israeli writer Eshkol Nevo. Plot details are being kept under wraps. Moretti adapted Nevo’s short story collection together with frequent co-screenwriters Federica Pontremoli and Valia Santella.

Trinca, who was on the Cannes jury in 2023, made her feature debut in Moretti’s “The Son’s Room” in 2001. This will be their first collaboration since Moretti’s anti-Silvio Berlusconi pic “The Caiman” in 2006.

“It Will Happen Tonight” will instead mark Moretti’s first collaboration with Garrel who recently starred in French blockbusters “The Three Musketeers” parts 1 and 2 and will soon be seen alongside Angelina Jolie in Alice Winocour’s “Couture.”

The film’s cast also comprises Angela Finocchiaro, Elena Lietti, Antonio De Matteo, Andrea Lattanzi, Hippolyte Girardot, Pietro Ragusa, and Paolo Sassanelli. Moretti, who often appears in his own films, is expected to just have a cameo.

Sacher Film and Fandango are producing in collaboration with RAI Cinema.

Moretti most recently competed in Cannes in 2023 with high-concept meta-comedy “A Brighter Tomorrow,” in which he stars as a Roman director who is shooting a period piece set in Rome in 1956.

Italian daily Il Messaggero broke the news of Moretti’s new film details of which were confirmed to Variety by Fandango.
