DreamWorks Animation has assembled a buzzy voice cast for “Forgotten Island,” an animated adventure that’s set to release in 2026.
Lea Salonga, Dave Franco, Jenny Slate, Manny Jacinto, H.E.R. and Liza Soberano (“Lisa Frankenstein”) are among the stars who will lend their voices to the film.
Plot details were previously hazy but the newly revealed logline asks an emotional question: “What if your lifelong best friend just forgot all about you? Forgot all the love, the joy, the pain, all of the memories and experiences you once shared.” The story revolves around two best friends who find themselves stranded on the fantastical world of Nakali and find that their only way off the mystical “forgotten island” might come at the expense of a lifetime of memories.
“Forgotten Island” will be written and directed by Joel Crawford and Januel Mercado, and produced by Mark Swift. This marks the third collaboration between Crawford and Swift, who worked on “Puss in Boots: The Last Wish” and “The Croods: A New Age.” It’s the directorial debut for Mercado, who also contributed to “Puss in Boots: The Last Wish” and “The Croods: A New Age.” Nathan Matthew David (“Joy Ride,” “The Brothers Sun”) will provide the score for “Forgotten Island.”
Universal will debut the film theatrically on Sept. 25, 2026. DreamWorks Animation’s recent slate has included last year’s sleeper hit “The Wild Robot” and this year’s box office draws, “The Bad Guys 2” and a “How to Train Your Dragon” remake. The studio is currently working on “Shrek 5” and the live-action “How to Train Your Dragon 2,” both slated for 2027.
