CEO Shou Zi Chew Asserts TikTok’s Fight for Freedom of Speech Amid National Security Bill Signing

After President Joe Biden’s action, signing a national security bill that would force TikTok to be sold by its owner, ByteDance, or face a potential ban in the United States, Chew confidently asserted, “We’re not going anywhere.” He made this bold comment just minutes later in a video posted on the platform. He added, “Make no mistake, this is a ban, a ban on TikTok, and a ban on you and your voice,” Chew said in the video. “Politicians may say otherwise. But make no mistake.”

Chew continued, noting that freedom of speech would be the company’s argument against the ban. He added that the bill becoming law is ultimately “a disappointing moment but does not have to be a defining moment. In fact, it’s ironic because freedom of speech on TikTok reflects the same American values that make the United States a beacon of freedom,” he continued. “TikTok offers ordinary Americans a powerful way to be seen and heard.”
