Fans of Emily Henry‘s bestselling rom-com “People We Meet on Vacation” can hang with best friends Poppy (Emily Bader) and Alex (Tom Blyth) as they travel the world on Jan. 9 — as long as they promise not to fall for them. Well, that’s at least what Poppy and Alex are trying not to do in the trailer for the Netflix movie adaptation of Henry’s beloved book.
Based on Henry’s novel “People We Meet on Vacation,” which has sold more than 2 million copies and spent 69 weeks on the New York Times Best Sellers list, the film of the same name follows free-spirited Poppy and routine-loving Alex.
Per the film’s synopsis: Poppy and Alex “have been unlikely best friends for a decade, living in different cities but spending every summer vacation together. The careful balance of their friendship is put to the test when they begin to question what has been obvious to everyone else — could they actually be the perfect romantic match?”
In the new trailer for “People We Meet on Vacation,” Poppy and Alex are shown on several of their iconic trips that book readers will remember, including their wild nights in New Orleans (where they pretend to be newlyweds and Alex breaks with his usual behavior to bust some dance moves), a camping trip gone horribly wrong, and even the trip to Norway they skipped because Poppy was sick and Alex came to take care of her instead of going by himself.
“People We Meet on Vacation” will mark the first of Henry’s book-to-screen adaptations to be released. The writer currently has projects based on her novels “Beach Read,” “Funny Story,” “Book Lovers” and “Happy Place.”
