“Wednesday,” one of Netflix‘s biggest hits of all time, returned to the streamer with its second season on Aug. 4 and racked up 50 million views in its first five days of streaming.
That puts it right on par with the performance of Season 1 when it premiered in November of 2022. At the time, Netflix ranked its series based on hours viewed, and “Wednesday” debuted with 341.1 million hours in five days. But divided by Season 1’s runtime of six hours and 49 minutes, that translates to roughly 50.1 million views.
Though Seasons 1 and 2 appear about even in terms of views, it should be noted that Season 1 premiered with all eight episodes at once, whereas Season 2 premiered with only four episodes — Part 2 will premiere on Sept. 3. Therefore, not only will the currently available episodes continue to rack up viewership in the coming weeks, but another massive viewership spike can be expected next month.
Season 1 of “Wednesday” is Netflix’s No. 1 most popular English-language TV title ever and its No. 2 TV title overall, with only Season 1 of South Korean drama “Squid Game” outranking it. Because Season 2 has attracted a similar audience size with even less content available, it’s plausible that Season 2 could usurp Season 1 to claim a new Netflix record.
More to come…
